Architectural Driving Tour - Arkansas
THE GLASS CHAPELS OF ARKANSAS by E. FAY JONES
Debra and I are on a brief vacation with friends from Dallas. We are on a driving tour of Arkansas, yes I did type Arkansas. We are touring some of the rich architectural heritage in Arkansas. Yes there are phenomenal architectural assets in Arkansas—many set in the beautiful Ozark mountains which I believe to be one of God’s greatest works. The official theme of the trip is The Glass Chapels of Arkansas by E. Fay Jones.
Our trip (Day 1) takes us first to Anthony Chapel in Hot Springs and second to Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, where we were blessed to attend a worship service. This spectacular space is pastored by Doug Reed who is the son of the original commissioning client and the visionary for the chapel. (Day 2) we are visiting the Mildred B Cooper Memorial Chapel just outside of Bentonville, and we will be spending the night at the Shaheen-Goodfellow Cottage, better known as "Stoneflower" due to the narrow upper story appearing to grow out of the large stone base. This is in Heber Springs. As with any journey we also found many beautiful buildings and side trips that proved to enrich this trip.

I hope you find the buildings and photos of interest — they describe history, culture and are steps in the path of our ever-changing social evolution.
