A hotel that celebrates the unique and distinctive luminaries of Fort Myers.
The client envisioned a stylish hotel with a timeless design on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River in downtown Fort Myers that would serve as the new hub of the revitalized River District. The hotel would be a key component in local efforts to draw residents, visitors, and conventions into the downtown area.
The hotel’s name, “Luminary'', a nod to Fort Myers’ most famous resident, Thomas Edison, also served as inspiration for our interior design team to delve into the city’s past and create an experience that celebrates a brilliant cast of audacious local luminaries who left a lasting impression on Fort Myers.
Every customer touch-point throughout the guest journey was carefully curated to reflect the characters who inspired them, from leather machinery belts and patinaed metal, to hand-scraped wood floors and a collection of historical photographs of local settlers, selected from the city’s archives.
The deep blue and lush green color palette is reflective of the hotel’s riverside location and the elegant Royal Palms planted by one of Fort Myers’ “founding mothers”, Tootie McGregor. Ella Mae’s Diner features vintage glass soda bottles suspended from the ceiling, a subtle nod to Fort Myers’ first black female doctor and philanthropist, Ella Mae Piper, who also owned a local bottling company. In The Silver King Ocean Brasserie fine dining restaurant, the artwork and lighting were inspired by the early fisherman who came to the area in search of the elusive Atlantic tarpon.
The Luminary & Co. successfully opened in September 2020. Its brand story has been brought to life through interior design that embodies the unique and distinctive luminaries of Fort Myers, providing a strong sense of place and inviting guests, residents and convention goers to connect with the city and its roots.
