A luxury resort is fully restored after getting hit by back-to-back hurricanes.
The Ritz Carlton, St. Thomas is a 180-room luxury resort that sits on 30 acres propped on the hillside overlooking the Caribbean. We were initially brought on by Braemar Hotels & Resorts as architect of record to renovate the fine dining restaurant on property. However, shortly after renovation got underway, two back-to-back, Category 5 hurricanes (Irma and Maria), hammered the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Ritz sustained significant damage and the project shifted from a single restaurant renovation to a renovation of the entire property.
Essentially everything along the shore was either wiped out or flooded from the storms, requiring renovation of all 180 guest rooms across six buildings and public spaces including meeting facilities, ballrooms, as well as adding a new fine dining restaurant and club building. We also worked with landscape architects at Perry Becker to design a new family friendly pool complete with 11 private poolside cabanas and a waterfront club building.
L2 designed and orchestrated the structural, mechanical, engineering, electrical, plumbing and architectural renovations, while working closely with Premiere Project Management, one of the top interior design companies in the U.S., who redesigned the interiors. We also permitted and facilitated the construction of the interior design.
After two years of renovations, the Ritz Carlton, St. Thomas opened in November 2018 and is more chic and accommodating than ever.
