A design inspired by the region’s history in citrus growing.
Situated in the East Central part of Florida, DeLand is described as a high pine meadow, accentuated by rolling hills and fringed along the St. Johns River by a narrow strip of very fertile hammock. Inspired by the region’s history in citrus growing, our Architecture and Interior Design teams imagined a contemporary interpretation of a citrus packing house. The distinctive angled roofline is reflective of the saw-toothed roofs found in citrus packing houses from the early days of Florida where the steeper surfaces faced away from the equator to shield workers and machinery from direct sunlight.
The same vertical and horizontal lines extend through the interior, softened by a muted, neutral color palette and natural textures. A large-scale art installation crafted from vintage citrus packing crates and labels will anchor the reception area and brings residents a strong sense of place.
